Thursday Night Football

I love the NFL, the big hits, the great catches, the Eli Manning and Mike Vick comebacks, there is nothing like it, also the parity of the league is just amazing this. I just read a stat showing there are 6 2-0 and 6 0-2 teams which means there are 20 1-1 teams in the league. Sure its only week two but they is just crazy to think about.

Anyways on to my point of Thursday Night Football, I love any night I can watch the NFL and Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock are excellent for the broadcast team, however I have one gripe. As a fantasy fanatic Thursday night is really putting a damper on my fantasy dreams and aspirations. For instance, I already lost Nicks this night against the Giants and may be losing out on Jonathan Stewart now as he is a game time decision. I sit and wonder if we just stuck with Sunday and Monday Night Football how much my fantasy team would improve. Let's be honest here amount I'm not alone in this thought. I would be willing to wager $$ that at least half of the NFL fanbase has a fantasy football team. The NFL is secretly planning to sabotage our leagues! Between officiating (another blog for another day) and these Thursday night games, it means we have to keep a sharper eye on our waiver wire and injury report throughout the week in case of last minute Thursday night adjustments.

Fantasy Football: What is in a name?

What's in a name? We have all heard it before right? Your name is more than just some letters on a paper, its your reputation. Well this time of year is when most red blooded football enthusiasts face that decision head on. Do they go with something witty? Do they use their favorite players name in their team in hopes of landing him? Do you even bother with creating a team name or is Team 5 the one that guides you to the championship? Naming a fantasy team is one of the most grueling processes a sports fan faces every year. (As well as constantly checking to make sure your bracket doesn't bust, but we will save that entry for March.) I'd like to end this with just a couple of my favorite recent team names, some from personal leagues others just found on the internet but all good for a laugh:

Gocong or Go Home
Chainsaw Massaqoui
Hide Ur Beagle Vicks An Eagle
Brady's Bunch
Arian Foster Care
Somewhere Over Dwayne Bowe

If you like this post make sure to subscribe, I plan on updated this thing 3-5 times a week. Also, make sure to add your favorite team names, or how you name your teams below in the comments! Thanks!

2012 NBA Finals Matchup Breakdown

Stakes at their highest, who will rise the trophy?

Lets jump right into the matchups and then I will have some random thoughts at the end

PG
Westbrook vs Chalmers

This one is pretty easy to call here Westbrook will be running circles around Chalmers this whole matchup.

Edge: Thunder

SG
Sefolosha vs Wade

Wade needs to get started early in this Finals matchup otherwise I think Sefolosha's D simply irritates and ultimately ends up neutralizing Wade. Wade does benefit from not having to worry to much about Sefolosha on offense and will be able to slack off a bit defensively.

Edge: Heat

SF
KD vs LBJ

The NBA has been dreaming of this matchup since KD entered the league. KD is the best scorer in the league vs Lebron the best player in the league. There really is no advantage on either side of this matchup

Edge: Draw

PF
Bosh vs Ibaka

Bosh wins this matchup going into the series. However, if Ibaka continues to hit that jumper this is going to be the unheralded matchup of the series.

Edge: Heat

C
Perkins vs Anthony

With Bosh healthy I think you see Anthony starting again. While the offense will be atrociously bad from both of these players, the defensive edge will favor Perkins.

Edge: Thunder

Bench
Harden, Fisher & crew vs Miller, Battier and Co.

Fisher's experience and Harden's offense seal the deal for the bench here.

Edge: Thunder

Coaching
Scotty Brooks vs Spo

The Spurs series made me a believer in Coach Brooks while the Celtics series made me realize that the Heat don't really care what Spo is saying.

Edge: Thunder

The Thunder win the edge with coaching and bench and draw with starting lineups against the Heat. I think the Thunder take the series in 5
Huge shoutout to @kunaalj for giving this blog a CLE touch.

Random Thoughts
Sefolosho is my X-Factor, he has to slow down Wade and put the pressure on James
I think you see the rise of KD here on the defensive end and he is able to slow down the king a tad.
The Thunder are hungry, battle tasted and overall more talented from top to bottom which is why I am picking them.
I think you see a lot of Perkins on Bosh this series while Ibaka floats weakside on Anthony/Haslem and the rest of their big rotation.

What Eddie has Realized

I've come to realize that those who make it big in the corporate world possess 10% skill and 90% manipulation.

It is amazing what a little observation can do. Paying attention puts you ahead of 85% of the population and if you hone this, you can often realize how people tick and then use the aforementioned manipulative power to use them as a pawn in your game of life.

I look back to just a couple years ago and wonder how I got to where I am now. Everything has changed from my attitude on life to my style of clothing. Is it bad I am scared of how much I can accomplish once I have a real career?

Potential is one of those words that we use for people who are smart/athletic who never really apply themselves.

The older I get the more and more I can appreciate a good plot. A movie or book that sucks you in is one of the greatest stress relievers we have as people.

On the same lines video games can be a great stress reliever but damn if they don't make you lazy.

Everyone is great at beer pong until they play someone great at beer pong.

I was out a couple weeks ago and a few of my friends I met up with were blackout drunk. It was at this point that I realized "Holy shit, I am growing up" because I was slightly turned off by the way they were acting. Drinking, to me, is no longer "lets get drunk" but a way to sit and ponder life.

One of my favorite movies "Rounders" had a great quote "If you are too careful your whole life can become a grind." It just now hit me as I am writing this that this was the exact reason I left Ohio.

Day Off

So I've been struggling to come up with a new topic for this blog and today it finally hit me. I'm seven beers deep and it finally made sense. We as men, need  a day to remind ourselves we are in charge of our lives. As I sit here typing I realized that I am not worried about my diet or my life stresses but more the fact of how much I am going to drink today. Usually I reserve these days for Friday and Saturday however as my good friend Jordan Stevenson always says "Why do you need to be getting married to celebrate bachelorhood?" So today I am getting drunk for the fun of it and not worrying about the consequences of my actions. It feels good to be me today.
